Brian Campbell Has Been His Steady Self For The Florida Panthers

Despite a rare recent run of success, this season has still been a miserable one for the Florida Panthers. Currently battling to get out of the cellar in the Eastern Conference, the struggles of the Panthers make the presence of Brian Campbell even more important.

Campbell has continued to remain as that steady presence in the lineup, even as players have dropped like flies from injury. The reigning Lady Byng Trophy winner continues to be a solid two-way defenseman, and a strong presence for this team in multiple ways.

On the season, Campbell’s numbers are some the best among defenseman. He has 23 point on the year, 15 of which have come with the Panthers on the man advantage. An impressive total, to be sure. His plus/minus is very unimpressive, at minus-16, but that’s probably due more than anything to the fact that he’s played more total minutes this season than any other player in the game.

His per game averages, in terms of minutes, ranks third in the league. Looking at his Corsi, things become quite a bit more favorable. He’s at a plus-9 in that regard, currently ranking fifth on the team. Again, take into account the fact that he plays more minutes than anyone else on the roster.

Campbell’s impact for this team goes beyond the numbers, though. He’s an important part of this team in the locker room, which is why he’s wearing the ‘A’. A season like this can be a tough one for a young team on the Panthers, especially with captain Ed Jovanovski missing pretty much the entire year, outside of six games.

While he may be one of the more overpaid players in the game, there’s no denying the value that Brian Campbell brings to this organization, both on the ice and off. A season like this certainly helps to prove how important he actually is, in multiple ways.
