With just nine games left in the regular season, Ryan Kesler couldn’t have come back at a better time for the Vancouver Canucks. The new look Canucks, since acquiring Derek Roy, have been rolling of late; scoring nine goals and winning in convincing fashion. Kesler was implemented into the lineup Monday night against the Phoenix Coyotes and didn’t seem to miss a beat. Ryan skated strong, hit hard, and scored a goal in a 2-0 victory for the Canucks.
It is important that Kesler gets these last couple weeks of games in before the playoffs. Both he and the team are going to benefit immensely from it as he gets himself into game shape. Inserting him into an already clicking lineup should help speed along Kesler’s assimilation to NHL game speed. Moreover, it will allow the team to mesh with its full lineup intact just before the playoffs. The very talented Kesler should have no trouble catching on quickly.
Upon his return, the Canucks’ lineup looks as healthy and formidable as it has all season. Coupling that alongside the tremendous play coming from Cory Schneider of late, the Canucks must be considered a serious contender for the Stanley Cup. As we know with sports, timing is everything.
The Canucks are currently on a three game winning streak as they enter a four game road trip with the next two opponents being at the bottom of the division. A nice winning streak before the playoffs could be just the spark needed to propel the Canucks deep into postseason.
