Washington Capitals Prove Skill in Win against Carolina Hurricanes

Some might call them lucky; others will call them the Cinderella story of this hockey season. The fact is, the Washington Capitals are playing really well, and it has been really tough to stop them.

Sure, Alex Ovechkin is hitting his peak just at the right time, and coach Adam Oates has had everything going for him and the team, but looking at this team right now, you could call them an early dark horse candidate to make a deep playoff run.

Just think about it. Braden Holtby is playing his best between the pipes right now, and it couldn’t be coming at a better time. Holtby was playing well in the beginning of the year, but he wasn’t playing like he has been right now. In his most recent game, he held the Carolina Hurricanes and made some outstanding saves that were critical to the victory.

On offense, the team proved that they could do just enough on Thursday night. They beat the Hurricanes to earn a huge two points that could decide the division. Being the consistent team that they have been lately, timely goals by Mike Green and Troy Brouwer got Washington over the hump and into the win column.

This is a surging team, and don’t be surprised to see them not only win their division, but make a deep run. Even though the beginning of the season was rough, this team has hit its peak at the right time. If they play like they did against Carolina the rest of the way, they will certainly be hard to stop coming down the home stretch.
