Toronto Maple Leafs Hit Replay Button in a Route Against Montreal Canadiens

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

If the old saying still rings true, then Saturday night is a good night to fight. There sure was a fight in tonight’s hockey match up featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs enjoying some home ice advantage against their longtime rivals the Montreal Canadiens. If Saturday is indeed a good night to fight, then tonight’s brutal bout was evidence that only one team answered the bell.

Each time these two hockey franchises meet on the ice, their rivalry has the potential to be entreating and sometimes dangerous. There is no love lost between the two hockey clubs. Each match up has so many combustible elements to it.

Any hockey historian can crunch all the numbers. That same sports historian can tell you the good things and bad things about either team. Tonight’s game was live from the Air Canada Center. The game easily can be summarized in one sentence. The game had a bit of everything including; the good, the bad, the ugly.

On paper, this game was written as a special attraction. The game sure was special but only for one team. The other team would like to forget this game ever happened. Going into the match up tonight, the Maple Leafs had the advantage in the season series two games to one.

Saturday’s game would a memory the Leafs fan base would like to hang on to. There is no kind way to say this, but the hockey Gods seemed to be on the Leafs good side. Players like Tyler Bozak, Phil Kessel and Dion Phanuef all made an impact on the scoreboard.

Tonight, it seemed like Maple Leafs captain earned the C he wears on his sweater. Toronto earns two huge points in statement victory tonight after Saturday’s game. It is worth noting that these two rivals could possibly meet in the first round of the playoffs. The Canadiens have already punched their ticket to the post season. If the Leafs and Habs do meet in post-season play than tonight’s game could just be the beginning of a storybook ending.
