It is going to be a fight to the finish for the St. Louis Blues as the NHL regular season winds down. St. Louis will probably have to do it without forward T.J. Oshie after he underwent surgery Tuesday. Oshie has seven goals and 13 assists this season in 30 games and was continuing to make steady improvement. It is looking very likely that Oshie will be out for the rest of the regular season.
This leaves the Blues with some major problems with six games left in the regular season. St. Louis is in seventh place in the Western Conference heading into Thursday’s games, just three points ahead of the Detroit Red Wings for a playoff spot. It helps that the Blues have won seven of their last eight games, and they did that mostly with Oshie out. This is a St. Louis team that has seen their main goalie in, Brian Elliott, step up again in recent weeks as well including having three straight shutouts.
The last six games feature five games at home for St. Louis, and I’m sure that Oshie would be able to return for the postseason if the Blues get there. It is players like Oshie that are really unsung heroes on a lot of teams. He had 54 points last season for St. Louis and has scored over 34 points in each of his previous four years. The Blues look to be in better shape than a lot of other teams to make the playoffs and should just rest Oshie rest until the playoffs do arrive.
