Vinny Prospal Stepping Up In Playoff Race For Columbus Blue Jackets
Even if the Columbus Blue Jackets currently find themselves in the middle of a playoff race, this season hasn’t always been the easiest one for them. One player who’s been a constant, whether in failure or success for this franchise this year, has been Vinny Prospal.
Prospal is obviously a key veteran presence for this young team, and his leadership has been crucial in helping this team to climb out of its early season struggles. The team’s oldest player by a long shot, he’s one of only three players on this team that has played in every single game this season.
In those games, Prospal has found success on the stat sheet. Even at the age of 38, he continues to be a pretty solid player for this team. On a team that generally lacks offense, he’s been a pretty steady presence in the box score on a nightly basis.
Prospal’s 27 points are tops on the team. Eleven of his 27 have come via goal, in addition to 16 assists on the year. He’s also a plus-4 on the season. His numbers are particularly good of late, where he’s producing with more regularity than we’ve seen from him this season.
He has five points in his last five games, with those points coming over the course of a four-game point streak. One of those games included a two-point performance, with a goal and an assist. The Blue Jackets have won their last five games.
If the Blue Jackets make it into the postseason, the presence of Prospal should not be overlooked. He’ll be an important player if they do crack the top eight in the Western Conference, as one of the only players on the roster that actually has some postseason experience.
