NHL Pre-Game Notes: Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Boston Bruins
This afternoon’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins (33-10-0, 66 points) and the Boston Bruins (26-11-5, 57 points) will be televised locally on ROOT Sports – Pittsburgh and nationally on NHL Network – US. Face off is set for 12:30pm (est) at TD Garden.
Today’s game is played in the shadow of what has unfolded throughout the week in Boston with the Boston Marathon bombers. This will be one of the first events that Boston residence will be able to get out and enjoy since the recent lockdown.
As mentioned previously, the players from both teams will be wearing special commemorative patches on their jerseys to be auctioned off after the game. The Bruins’ patch is to be the blue and yellow “Boston Strong” ribbon while the Penguins will be donning a “617″ (one of Boston’s two area codes) patch. Proceeds from the auctions will be donated to “The One Fund Boston” (OneFundBoston.org), “whose purpose is to raise money to help those families most affected by the events at the Boston Marathon.” Special “Boston Strong” t-shirts will also be sold at the game. For more information on the events scheduled during tonights game, visit the offical Boston Bruins webpage.
