2013 NHL Playoffs: Ottawa Senators Will Pay for Vicious Hit

There was a lot of talk after Game 1 of the NHL playoff series between the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens about the hit Eric Gryba put on Lars Eller. Eller ended up with facial and dental fractures along with a concussion and was taken off the ice on a stretcher. The Senators would win Game 1 on the road, but this hit is going to cost them in the long run.

I would expect that Gryba gets a long suspension for the hit. I watched it several times ,and there is no doubt in my mind that there was intent to injure. You have to think that Montreal is going to be very upset about this happening and will make the Senators pay for it. That can’t be a very settling thought for Ottawa moving forward as the Canadiens were already playing great offense and had 50 shots on goal during Game 1 on Thursday even in the loss. Game 2 is Friday night and not having a day off in between games could just be the start of big trouble.

There was no time to calm down, and this will be talked about all the way up to the beginning of the next game. You can expect another very busy night for Craig Anderson in goal, but if he can be up for the challenge for the second straight night, the Senators may be able to go home with a 2-0 series lead. There is no doubt that this will be a very tense night for Ottawa waiting to see if the Canadiens try to do anything to exact revenge.
