Washington Capitals Have Major Decision to Make
How would you like to be the Washington Capitals right now? You make a huge run to get into the NHL playoffs and then after winning the first two games of your series, you go out and lose four of the next five to be eliminated. When you add on the fact that the team didn’t score a single goal in the final two games, there is no doubt that something has to be adjusted with Washington going into next season.
Everyone knows about the struggles that the Capitals have had in the playoffs in recent years with getting out of the first round or second round. Seasons like this one just continue to increase the pressure that the team is under. Alex Ovechkin was a scoring machine during the final two months of the regular season. He managed just one goal and one assist in the playoffs, and the same goes with Mike Ribeiro. Those two players needed to lead this Capitals team into the next round.
Washington is just sitting around now watching what could have been. Ovechkin did play through a hairline fracture in his left foot for the last two games of the playoff series, and I give him credit for doing that. I’m not sure if it involves roster changes or getting some players who can stop a power play, but there has to be something done. Would it be possible that the team decides to dangle Ovechkin out there in a trade? I know that won’t sit well with Capitals fans, but where has the team gotten with him in the lineup? They have never even made ot to the conference finals with him. It may seem way outside of the box, but anything is possible in Washington now.
