Max Pacioretty Needs to Take Montreal Canadiens On His Shoulders

There are quite a few young superstars popping up all around the NHL, and the Montreal Canadiens have one of those players in Max Pacioretty. I think we could be looking at one of the brightest young stars in the league going into next year. He had 39 points in 44 games this season with 15 goals leading the team.

If the Canadiens want to get deeper into the playoffs next year, it could be up to players like Pacioretty.

He will be in his sixth season next year and has proved that he can score around 60-65 points during a full year. The way that Montreal went down in this postseason was alarming, though, and it didn’t help that Pacioretty didn’t score a single point in four games. I’m sure his injury didn’t help matters, but it is time to look ahead to next year. This is a player who needs to score over 70 points for the Canadiens.

While I realize that the Canadiens were fourth in the NHL in scoring, averaging three goals a game, they can’t afford to lose in the playoffs so quickly again.

He may only be 24, but he must become an even bigger leader for Montreal to become a Stanley Cup contender. It has been 20 years since the Canadiens won the title and the fans are getting restless since they are used to winning all the time. Montreal could get back on the good side of their fans next year and they can have a chance at the title. It may depend a lot on how good Pacioretty is in the process.
