NHL Rumors: Big Trade On The Horizon For The Carolina Hurricanes?
The Carolina Hurricanes will be a team to watch this summer. Injuries derailed their 2013 season, but this is a team that isn’t too far off from contending. They could be a trade or two away from building a serious threat out of the Eastern Conference. Which makes them extremely intriguing.
Initially, the mentality in Carolina was that the Hurricanes were not going to move major assets. They were going to make additions to the club in free agency and in the draft, but wouldn’t be moving any marquee names, and there are quite a few for this team on the forward ranks.
That doesn’t appear to be the philosophy anymore. There are still untouchable players. Anyone with the last name of Staal, Cam Ward, and Alex Semin are players that likely won’t be dealt. Despite one year remaining on their contracts, don’t expect Justin Faulk or Jiri Tlusty to be dealt either. Extensions, especially for the former, seem more likely.
There are whispers that the Hurricanes could be on their way to making a big trade. A couple of big names, both on the roster and prospect-wise are being floated around, as well as their no. 5 overall pick in this month’s draft.
An intriguing name to watch out on the trade front is that of Jeff Skinner. With plenty of scoring depth up front, and a couple of seasons in which Skinner has struggled with his health and with his performance, he could be an intriguing trade candidate. Perhaps in a move for a guy like Keith Yandle? Pure speculation, of course.
Between the no. 5 pick and Skinner’s name being out there, the Hurricanes are going to be an extremely intriguing team to watch as the month winds down. They made a huge move at least year’s draft, in acquiring Jordan Staal, could they be ready to do it against at the end of June?
