There are some things that are fixable for the Nashville Predators and some things where a little tweak here and there would do wonders before next season.
The one position that I didn’t think needed help was goaltending situation. However, Pekka Rinne is coming off hip surgery and while there isn’t expected to be any setbacks, I think the team needs to invest in a quality backup.
While I see Rinne being between the pipes on Opening Night late this fall, I still think the team should make the effort to try to lure Ray Emery town. He has been sitting on the bench this whole offseason for the Chicago Blackhawks after going 17-1 with a 1.94 goals against average in the regular season. He is being pushed out of town since the Blackhawks signed Antti Raanta out of Finland this month.
The Predators could jump in on the unrestricted free agent. It could be hard to get him obviously since so many other teams need goalie help, but it would be worth it. They can’t risk not having a solid goaltender there just in case Rinne does have some sort of issue during his comeback.
The salary cap is going down though, and I’m not sure the team will want to pay two goaltenders a ton of money but if they can get Emery for two years for around $3 million, it will be a worthwhile investment to protect the position.
