The Dallas Stars are going to get quite a bit of attention this season, and with the offseason they’ve had, they deserve it. They’ve acquired high profile talent like Tyler Seguin, in addition to quality role players like Shawn Horcoff and Rich Peverley. There’s little doubt they’ll make some noise this season.
What has become a bit overshadowed in all of the attention that they have received, however, has been the young talent that they already employ. Part of what made the GM job so attractive to Jim Nill was the fact that the Stars already had a solid farm system in place. And Alex Chiasson is an example of that.
Chiasson only appeared in seven games with the Stars last season, but he left a pretty big impression. He notched points in five of those seven games, finishing with seven points over that span. Six of those points came from putting the puck in the back of the net, including a power play goal.
A second round pick of the Stars in 2009, Chiasson is likely going to get a chance to succeed immediately with the Stars in 2013-14. That action towards the end of the season was his first at this level, and he showed that he can hang. He has the size and the skill set to be a very effective player.
He’s a big body in the lineup, standing 6’4″ and about 190. You’d like more meat on that frame, but he has decent speed as well, which makes him a threat even if he isn’t the bulkiest of guys. He’s a solid playmaker out on the wing, but we saw that he can also put the puck in the net as well. He’s going to be one to watch for the Stars as we head into the next generation for this organization.
