The top prospects for eight NHL teams will be on display this week as they head to the 15th Traverse City Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich. Over the years many of the NHL’s young stars have taken part in the tournament, and this year the future of the Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets will be on display. Of all the teams in attendance, one early favorite is a Stars team that will feature first-round draft picks from each of the past three drafts as well as two players who debuted in Dallas last season.

When the puck drops for the beginning of the 2013-14 season, the Stars will feature a handful of new faces. Tyler Seguin, Sergei Gonchar and Shawn Horcoff are among the highly-anticipated arrivals, as new general manager Jim Nill wasted no time in putting together a roster that he thinks can help lead the team back to the postseason. Nill also gets to showcase a handful of his draft picks from this summer, while also seeing a few of the players he helped draft while with the Red Wings.

In addition to the Stars’ Valeri Nichushkin and Jason Dickinson, other 2013 first-rounders in attendance will be Rasmus Ristolainen (Buffalo), Elias Lindholm (Carolina), Kerby Rychel (Columbus) and Anthony Mantha (Detroit). Here is a look at six Stars prospects to keep an eye on at this week’s tournament.

2013 first round pick Valeri Nichushkin may end up being the steal of the draft, as the Stars were able to snag him with the 10th overall pick. He could very well earn a roster spot in Dallas for the upcoming season, and this tournament will be a first chance for Stars fans to see the promising Russian forward with great size (6-4, 202) in action.

Alex Chiasson will be one of the “veterans” at the tournament, but expectations for the 2009 second rounder are high after he scored six goals in seven games for the Stars last season.

Radek Faksa

Top 2012 pick Radek Faksa got his first taste of pro hockey last season, skating in two games with the Texas Stars of the AHL after his junior season was finished. Coming off a 29-goal, 67-point season for the Kitchener Rangers in his draft year, Faksa managed nine goals and 31 points last season while missing time with an MCL injury.

Jason Dickinson

Jason Dickinson came to the Stars with the 29th pick in this year’s draft (the pick obtained in the Jaromir Jagr trade), and will get a chance to showcase his skills at the tournament. Dickinson had 18 goals and 47 points for the Guelph Storm last season, and is projected as a second line two-way forward.

Jamie Oleksiak

Defenseman Jamie Oleksiak made his NHL debut for the Stars last season, and the towering (6-7, 240) prospect showed he can be a factor at the highest level. He skates well for a big man, and is likely headed back to the AHL but could be a borderline addition in Dallas or an early injury call-up.

Jack Campbell

Finally, goaltender Jack Campbell remains one of the top prospects in the organization even though his development has been slow. Taken 11th overall in 2011, Campbell got a chance to shine in the AHL last season and went 19-13-3 in 40 appearances. With Kari Lehtonen and Dan Ellis in Dallas this season, he’ll head back to the Texas Stars but could make his NHL debut if there is an injury.
