It’s true that looking at the preseason and watching the games are a joke because the majority of the players on the ice for the Philadelphia Flyers will not make the team. It’s why a lot of fans don’t get caught up in how the team fares in those first exhibition games, but considering how disappointing the last season was, is it time to actually pay attention?
In the Flyers first several games in the preseason, they came out with a 1-3 record. That is not something that fans want to see when their team takes the ice again after having one of the most disappointing seasons in the franchise’s history. But should fans really care? In other words, are the Flyers already showing that this is what they will play like when the regular season games begin?
The Flyers have already cut down their roster and assigned players to their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, to participate in the team’s training camp. Three prospects, Tyrell Goulbourne, Taylor Leier, and yes, even Sam Morin, have been loaned back to their junior teams. Todd Orlando was also released. If you were thinking who? That’s probably why the Flyer hopeful was cut in the first place.
So, all these young kids are going back to develop more in the minors and juniors, so when the Flyers host the New Jersey Devils next week, they team might play a little differently. These first four games may make fans weary and think the worst, but it’s four games in, without Claude Giroux, and it’s not even the regular season yet. Fans also need to remember that this season we have a full season, and it will allow the Flyers to lose a few games here and there, but they will still be contending for the playoffs once again.
