Brendan Dillon and Alex Chiasson

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

During the offseason, the Dallas Stars made some big changes including adding a new front office staff and new coaching staff. The biggest change the Stars made, however, was on the ice as they added Tyler Seguin in a trade from the Boston Bruins, along with Shawn Horcoff and Ryan Button. Many people, myself included, felt that Seguin and Jamie Benn would form a deadly combination on the Stars top line. Paired with Erik Cole, the two of them hope to open up the ice against opposing defenses.

In the midst of the top line talk for Dallas, though, we have forgotten about one particular player — Alex Chiasson. Chiasson is classified as a rookie even though he did play in seven games last season. Last year, he scored in six of the seven games he played and became an instant fan-favorite.

This season, he has picked up where he left off last season. The Stars rookie has scored in each of the first two games this season. Both goals gave the team a 2-1 advantage. On opening night against the Florida Panthers, the Stars couldn’t hold onto the lead while against the Washington Capitals, they could.

There has been so much excitement around the Stars concerning Seguin, Benn and rookie sensation Valeri Nichushkin and rightfully so. Those three could very well be at the top of the points leaders for the team. However, don’t forget about the other rookie Chiasson. While everyone else is talking about the other three, he is quietly putting pucks into the back of the net. After all, isn’t that what this is about anyways?
