NHL Preview: Philadelphia Flyers At Carolina Hurricanes

Flyers vs Hurricanes

The Philadelphia Flyers are having a rough start this season, after dropping their second game against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. They will try to rectify that, however, on Sunday night as they face off another Metropolitan division rivalry when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes are also after the win, since they have also had a rocky start to their NHL season. The odds are more in the Flyers’ favor, since they beat the Hurricanes in all three games they played against each other last season. This could be a heavy hitting game; however, since neither team made the playoffs last season, and with the new divisions, these two could be going head-to-head for that final spot playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Steve Mason is likely to be in net for the Flyers, since Ray Emery took the loss on Saturday. Mason has had some miscues, but he seems to really be warming up in net for the team. He needs to be on his guard and not rely on the Flyers’ weak defense. Another thing the Flyers need to look at is their discipline. They had a tough time in Montreal because they let the Habs get a man advantage nine times. They can’t let the ‘Canes get into their skin that way on Sunday.

A player to watch out for on the ‘Canes is newcomer Nathan Gerbe. Gerbe scored one of the goals in the ‘Canes opener to guide them to an overtime period. He’s definitely a player the Flyers need to be on the alert about. As for the ‘Canes, they are obviously going to be targeting Claude Giroux, but since Vincent Lecavalier scored the only goal in their game on Saturday, he is a player that will be do good things with this team as the season progresses.

The ‘Canes should be an easy team for the Flyers to beat, but don’t hold your breath.
