New York Rangers Defense Plays Atrociously

Rangers vs. Ducks 3

The New York Rangers continued their trend of horrific defense in a 6-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. The Rangers got off to a bad start and it haunted them.

The Rangers defense core is one of the most talented in the NHL. But when their best defenseman, Ryan McDonagh, gets burned twice it is cause for concern. Team defense has been the calling card of the Rangers over the last few years. But this season the Rangers team defense has been horrendous. Every single player has looked like they have never played hockey. Henrik Lundqvist can’t be blamed for everything, but he must be held accountable as well. Michael Del Zotto has looked the worst out of any player on the team. The fourth goal scored by the Ducks was one of the worst goals I have ever seen. Del Zotto collided with his own player. Lundqvist came out of the net to poke it away but the puck would eventually find its way in.

People are going to start panicking in Ranger land. The team cannot afford that. The next game against the St. Louis Blues might already be a must win game. The Rangers need to start building momentum. Alain Vigneault must use today in order to teach his team their mistakes. But the players must start learning quickly.

The Rangers have been outscored 15-2 in their last six periods. The defense has been awful and that must change if they want any chance of being a contender for the Stanley Cup.
