On July 4 of this year, while the U.S. was celebrating its independence, the Dallas Stars set off some fireworks of their own. Fans were perplexed as news broke that the Stars had reached a deal with the Boston Bruins to acquire Tyler Seguin for Loui Erikkson. There were other people involved with the trade, but these were the two names that made the trade happen.
Fans were a little worried because of Erikkson’s ability to score and the fact that he’s been one of the top scoring leaders in Dallas for a while. Unsure about Seguin, fans had much speculation coming into the season. Hopefully, after Friday night’s 4-1 win over the Division-rival Winnipeg Jets, those speculations can be put at ease.
Seguin, who has been paired with newly-named Captain Jamie Benn, scored his first goal of the season in the win. Not only did he score a goal, but he scored two goals and he had a career-high four points. Benn also scored on the night. The duo of Seguin and Benn is turning into a lethal combination only three games into the season.
With his four points, Seguin now has five points on the season. This is what the Stars hoped for when they made the trade to bring him to Dallas. If he can continue to provide offense like he has, the Stars are going to be very happy they brought him to town. The rumors coming from fans in Boston has always been that he sometimes doesn’t play up to his potential and they felt like there was more talent to unlock.
Dallas just needs to hope those are rumors and Seguin keeps playing like he has in the first three games.
