The New York Rangers will be taking on the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers have to use the momentum they have built up in the last two games and get off to a good start at home.

The Rangers haven’t gotten off to many good starts this season. Even in their win against the Buffalo Sabres, they let up some good scoring opportunities over the first two minutes of the game. In wins against the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings, they also did not score the first goal, but found a way to fight back and eventually win the game.

For a Rangers team that is still struggling to score goals, getting off to a quick start is key. Getting the first goal would be something that gives the team confidence. Not many pucks are going to get past Henrik Lundqvist when he is on his game. So giving him and the defense a lead to work with is nice. Then they have to build off the momentum they gain from the start and eventually begin pouring on some goals. Letting teams hang around when you are dominating play is a very scary thing, especially when you are on home ice. There will be some emotion in this game as it is a Staal brother reunion. Marc Staal will be playing against his brothers Jordan Staal and Eric Staal.

The start to the Rangers game is the biggest key for them. If they can get some good pressure early and put in a quick goal, they should be off and running.
