Is it a coincidence that the New York Rangers have won three-straight games since Carl Hagelin returned to the lineup? I think not.
Hagelin is easily one of the fastest players in the league and has shown it since he has come back. His speed has created numerous scoring chances for himself and his line mates. Speaking of line mates, the combinations of Hagelin, Brad Richards, and Benoit Pouliot has been awesome so far for the Rangers. Hagelin’s speed helps the forecheck, the playmaking of Richards creates great scoring chances, and Pouliot’s ability to snipe makes him a great option without the puck.
Hagelin also brings great help to the Rangers’ penalty killing. Ever since he came into the league he has been on the penalty kill. He can get in the lane and block a shot or he can create a short-handed scoring opportunity because of his great speed. You’ll see a common theme here when talking about Hagelin, speed. Speed kills, and that is the main reason why the Rangers have been turning it around lately. They are faster and have depth throughout their forward lines now.
The Rangers are finally starting to get some offense going. This is definitely due to other players stepping up but mostly because Hagelin has sparked the team. No longer is he an underrated player for this team, but a legitimate threat that other teams have to take note of. He is a star in the making and possibly the most important player on the team.
