NHL Preview: Philadelphia Flyers Visit Carolina Hurricanes
The Philadelphia Flyers had a rough weekend as they dropped an ugly loss to the Washington Capitals on Friday night. They managed to squeak in a win against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, but this team is still not in the place they want to be. They’ll try to start fresh this week as they visit the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.
The 4-9-0 Flyers will have a more equal match up against the Hurricanes who currently have a 4-7-3 record. However, the ‘Canes do know how to get a point better than the Flyers and the last time the two teams met this season, the ‘Canes were victorious.
Although the ‘Canes will have the home ice advantage and they beat the Flyers the last time they met, they have not been doing that great either. The ‘Canes are on a downward spiral as they head to this game with the intention to break a five-game skid. The Flyers will try to build on their previous win, and prevent the ‘Canes from doing this. The ‘Canes also have a lot of scratches on their roster, so this is another element that gives the Flyers the upper hand.
Vincent Lecavalier was absent in Saturday’s game due to facial injuries, but he is expected to return to the ice on Tuesday. That will be good news for the Flyers especially if Ray Emery also stays hot and in his crease. The Flyers will really succeed on Tuesday if they learn some discipline as well. A lack of discipline was one of the most obvious issues with their game last Friday, so this team really needs to smarten up.
