New York Rangers Would Be Foolish To Trade Dan Girardi For Nail Yakupov
Rumors are beginning to swirl after the Edmonton Oilers had some of their brass at the New York Rangers game last night. People are speculating that the Oilers and Rangers are on the verge of making a big deal.
The Oilers are in desperate need of a veteran defenseman. Dan Girardi is the name that is being brought up a lot in the trade rumors along with Nail Yakupov. Yakupov is a former No. 1 pick who is still only 20 years old. Girardi has anchored the Rangers’ defense for the last few years after being undrafted and signing with the team, but he is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
The trade makes sense for the Rangers, but not for the price. Girardi is one of the heart and soul members of the Rangers. He has been apart of the core that has been being built up over the past few seasons. Alain Vigneault wants to be a more offensive team, but you still need a defensive defenseman to anchor the back end. As for Yakupov this will be his first full season in the NHL. There are so many rumors going around about him being hard to coach and all that. While he has a great skill-set there is always the possibility of him bolting for the KHL. Personally I think there are better options in the market than Yakupov.
The Rangers need some quick players on offense, but they can’t give up one of their best players in Girardi for that.
