It’s finally happened, Philadelphia!
No more do Philadelphia Flyers fans have to suffer through all the “last time Claude Giroux scored…” jokes. Let’s first admit that they were all terrible jokes, but then recognize that finally our team captain has connected and scored his first goal of the season.
Prior to scoring the goal in the third period of their game against the Edmonton Oilers, it was visible how irritated Giroux was with not being able to find the back of the net. It’s been pretty obvious in the season that he has been just as frustrated as the fans that things are coming together. He’s been irritated, which was nice for Flyers fans because, although they are doing terrible this year, at least the captain is showing that he cares. He’s been showing his passion, and we appreciate that at least. Although, we’d rather see more goals.
It’s no surprise here that Jakub Voracek helped Giroux to the goal, as the linemates seem to just find each other on the ice so well. These two were great together last season, even when the team was struggling then too. This season, there have been subtle hints that they were turning it back on, but they weren’t completely there yet.
Although the Flyers did well play and managed to win on Saturday, they were playing the Oilers, a team that is notoriously bad. Hopefully Giroux finally scoring a goal will be a turning point for this team.
