The Chicago Blackhawks have suffered a long list of injuries so far this season. However, Marian Hossa is a big name player that Chicago cannot afford to see sidelined for too much longer. He has already missed three games in light of a lower body injury. During practice over the last week, Hossa has been showing signs that he could be back out on the ice, but that the time has not yet arrived.
If Hossa remains off of that radar, it could mean that a forward out of Rockford could get called up. This is even more of a necessity when you consider Bryan Bickell’s injury. This is easier said than done as the Blackhawks organization faces salary cap issues. It is all about finding the right mix between the business and hockey standpoints, and decisions will have to be made.
All-in-all, it boils down to one deciding factor: if Hossa will skate or not. His lack of presence out on the ice has been palpable as the Hawks have lost two of their last three games without him on the ice. There is still plenty of talent to back-up the roster, but Hossa has emerged as a strong leader this season, and his absence is more than noticeable. If his injury continues to limit him to the bench, the rest of the team will need to step up and take action.
