The fact that players like Cody Eakin and Antoine Roussel took a huge role on the offensive side of the puck is always important, and scoring six goals is always a big thing as well, especially against one of the better teams in the league.
In order to build from this performance, however, the organization needs this kind of effort from secondary players more often.
It’s no secret that Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin are the main scoring options on the team, and even though players like Alex Chiasson and Ray Whitney can add a scoring punch when needed, the likes of Eakin and Roussel need to find a way to produce offensively if the Stars want to push for a playoff seed late in the season.
Given how stacked things are in the Western Conference this year, the Stars need all the offense they can get. Having only two dependable weapons on the roster is simply not enough. Considering all the young talent this team has their future appears to be very bright, but if they are looking to surprise this year the role players will have a key role going forward.
Yesterday’s performance was definitely a step in the right direction. If it can be repeated on a consistent basis the Stars could grab a lower seed in the West once the regular season is over.
