Stop me if you have heard this before: The New York Rangers have recalled J.T. Miller from their AHL affiliate. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. The Rangers are making a huge mistake by messing with Miller and his psyche.
If the Rangers want to get the most out of Miller they have to let him play. Whether that is at the NHL or AHL level is up for the coaches to decide. Alain Vigneault admitted a couple of weeks ago that they need to do what is right for Miller and that is to let him play. But now that they have recalled him again he must inserted into the lineup and given the opportunity to play.
The Rangers expect Miller to be a big part of their future, and for this to happen they must treat him right. The Chris Kreider situation from last year should have taught the Rangers that shuffling players between the NHL and AHL and giving them limited minutes when they are in the NHL is a bad idea. So now that Miller is back I think he will thrive in a good situation.
The perfect situation for Miller would be to play the wing with Derick Brassard and Carl Hagelin on the Rangers’ third line. Taylor Pyatt is virtually useless and needs to be taken off that line. Miller would fit in beautifully with those two guys who are both very smart and creative players. Brassard and Hagelin like to create offense and use their speed and creativity. Miller is also a player who has very good hands and also plays a good two-way game. This would help the Rangers as a team and would also help Miller’s development.
The Rangers take on the New Jersey Devils tomorrow night. It will be interesting to see if Miller is inserted into the lineup and if he gets the chance to play on this line.
