Even though the Dallas Stars are improving, the game against the Chicago Blackhawks showed that the team still has long ways to go before competing with the top teams in the NHL. The Stars were outshot, outplayed and dominated by the current Stanley Cup champions and a result, they dropped the game by a 6-2 score in front of their fans at the American Airlines Center.
Things didn’t start well for the Stars as they quickly fell down by two goals after the first period, and even though Antoine Roussel scored one goal in the second period, the game was already 5-1 at that point. Roussel was the only bright spot in an offense that was dominated by Chicago’s defensive unit, and ended up scoring both of the Stars’ goals.
The power play woes are something the Stars need to keep working on as they went 0-for-5 with the man advantage. As if that wasn’t enough, the goaltending wasn’t very sharp either. Both Dan Ellis and Kari Lehtonen saw action today and while Ellis surrendered two goals in 14 shots, Lehtonen allowed four in 19.
With the win, the Blackhawks have already won three out of four games against the Stars with one game left to be played between the two teams. If today’s action showed something, it is that the Stars have to keep working and improving and maybe one day, they can be on other side of the spectrum when they face the top teams of the league in the future.
