Although the Philadelphia Flyers are struggling offensively, we can still see some of the bright spots on the team. Currently, one of those spots has been rookie Michael Raffl, whom has been showing his potential in the past couple of games.
Although the Flyers lost to the Ottawa Senators on Monday, that game did go into a shootout round. One of the players that helped the team just get to that second overtime period was Raffl. He scored the first goal of the game, which was pretty monumental for the rookie as it was his first ever NHL goal. It also reminded fans that he was on the team. Raffl got on the board again in that game by assisting his linemate Luke Schenn on his goal. It was in that game that he was really starting to show that he was here to be a team player.
The Flyers played horrendously against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday but they tried to make up for that on Thursday as they welcomed back former Flyer Danny Briere and the Montreal Canadiens. Craig Berube put Raffl on the line with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek and it paid off almost immediately as he scored his second NHL goal assisted by his linemates.
Raffl is having a nice, steady start to his NHL career and we can really see the potential that he could bring to this team later this season, and the next couple seasons. He’s showing hints of good offensive skills, which is something the team really needs to hone in on.
