The Boston Bruins recalled Kevan Miller on an emergency basis. Dennis Seidenberg tore his ACL and MCL. Miller had spent nine games in the NHL before the Bruins had to reassign him to the Minors. Miller was in danger of being claimed off waivers if the Bruins decided to allow him to play 10 games. The Bruins believe that Miller can be a top-six defenseman in the NHL and were sure another team was going to pick him up.
The confidence that the Bruins have in Miller is the reason for calling him back up to the NHL. Miller scored one goal, and had one assist in his nine games what the Bruins. Miller was also a plus two. Seidenberg is going to miss the rest of the season. It only makes sense that the Bruins would look to Miller to provide some relief. This is a great opportunity to establish himself as an NHL defenseman. The 26-year-old has not only had some solid games in the NHL but has also took his fair share of knocks. Dion Phaneuf introduced Miller to the NHL when he hit him from behind earlier in the season.
It will be interesting to see who Miller is paired with and whether or not he can sustain substantial minutes playing for the Bruins. Miller may also be used as trade bait as the NHL trade deadline approaches. He may be just what the Bruins need to give up for a veteran defenseman down the stretch.
