Top 5 Chicago Blackhawks players

Mike Dinovo- USA TODAY Sports

With the 2013 portion of the NHL season coming to a close, it is a natural stopping point at which to examine how every team and every player is doing at this point. For the Chicago Blackhawks the season has been a roller coaster of sorts, but many players have stood out and some high above the rest.

As a team, the Blackhawks' main strength is offense. They have recorded five or more points in 18 games so far this season. Their offensive skill is ridiculously impressive and continues to grow in depth and precision the more coach Joel Quenneville tinkers with the lineups.

The defensive situation is one that needs work. For any other NHL team I am sure they could get away with such holes in their defense, but it makes the Blackhawks look a bit out of proportion when the defense is brought to light against the offense. It is amazing that Chicago has an offensively minded defense, but the defense should first remain just that -- a defense.

Obviously, the Blackhawks still have a great roster filled with talent. I guess when you are met with a team as talented as they are you start asking yourself what this team could do to be better.

So, with that said, there are five players on the Chicago Blackhawks roster that have made an impressive show so far this season, and it is not exactly the same players that I detailed about a month ago. While all the players on the team are great, there are a solid five players who have really stepped up their game either offensively or defensively to make it happen out on the ice.

Captain Serious has been an excellent leader for the Blackhawks, but he hasn't been quiet when it comes to putting points up on the board. He got a hat trick early on this season and has been making the most of his time out on the ice ever since.

4. Antti Raanta

Antti Raanta has really been there for the Blackhawks with Corey Crawford's injury keeping him out of the net for an extended period of time. It was important that the Hawks had Raanta on their side because he was able to stand strong between the posts.

3. Duncan Keith

Duncan Keith has been a defensive strong arm for the Hawks, and is helping to lead the rest of the defense away in such a manner. He currently sits at the top of the league with an astounding 36 assists. The guy is an intimidating and powerful force out on the ice and continues to deliver for the Hawks.

2. Patrick Sharp

Patrick Sharp has found a whole heap of success lately when it comes to finding the back of the net for Chicago, including his third career hat trick the night of his birthday last week. He is a continuous offensive force who works wonderfully out on the first line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa.

1. Patrick Kane

There is no denying Patrick Kane and his amazing talent. He is on a career best streak for points scored and is in no way looking to end that streak. He has the ability to make the most clutch plays at the most crucial times. He works well with the whole team and has the ability to develop amazing chemistry with his teammates. He is taking his play to the next level with each new game and remains focused on the end goal: the Stanley Cup.
