The New York Rangers are coming off of their best win of the season against the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Chicago Blackhawks. The team got some nice bounces and an excellent performance from goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to preserve the 3-2 win for the Rangers, and now the team has to find a way to play with the same intensity against the Dallas Stars and avoid a letdown.
The Stars have two of the best young players in the NHL with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. The Stars are a fun team to watch, and they can score just like most teams in the Western Conference. When the two teams met earlier this season, Lundqvist played his best game so far as he stood on his head and made 41 saves. The Rangers ended up winning that game 3-2.
This is a critical point in the NHL season, and teams are beginning to realize if they are contenders or pretenders. Right now the Rangers are currently tied for the ninth spot in the playoffs, so points become huge during these games. The Rangers are starting to heat up after having a horrible December. Lundqvist is starting to find his game, and Rick Nash has looked as engaged as he has in a long time. These are games they must win. After a huge win against the best team in the NHL you simply cannot afford to lose this game.
The official halfway point of the season is officially gone, and the Rangers are a low-end playoff team. In order for them to get on a run they have to win against the Stars, and they must find ways to avoid letdowns against teams they should beat.
