Thanks To Cory Schneider, New Jersey Devils Beat Dallas Stars

One goal is all the New Jersey Devils could come up with against a team that has given up 18 goals in the last three games.  The Dallas Stars came into this game on a terrible three-game losing streak, and thanks to Cory Schneider it is now four.

Schneider was absolutely fabulous in this game, making some of the biggest saves you will see all season on the Stars.  On at least three occasions, he stopped at least three shots in one flurry.  There were times where it looked like a goal was imminent, but it never happened because he was there to stone whoever was willing to try.

Schneider was even great when Dallas was on the power play.  When they went on a double-minor thanks to a high stick from Stephen Gionta (which was hard to tell how it happened on the replay) Schneider stoned the Stars on multiple occasions.  He was stopping them from start to finish as you could see with his shutout victory on Thursday.

Some of the best saves included his double save that he performed on Tyler Seguin at around 11:15 of the first period, stopping a wrap around try by Jamie Benn at 15:25 of the first, a redirect in front by Cody Eakin and once again on Seguin with less than ten seconds left to win the game.

It would be a crime to not mention the great job that Kari Lehtonen did in this game.  He stopped Mike Sislo on a breakaway attempt to his five-hole, two point-blank shots by Michael Ryder, a one-timer by Eric Gelinas, a shot by Travis Zajac that was so close it had to be reviewed and two of the best saves you will see on Ryan Carter.

Speaking of Ryder, he finally broke Lehtonen in the second period on his third open chance.  He took a pass from Zajac behind the net and blasted it into the net.  Again, besides him and Adam Henrique nobody can score on this team.

At the end of the day, this was a great offensive game for the Devils where they just didn’t get the results on the scoreboard.  When you look at both sides, this game could have ended with a score of 5-4.  The goalies were great on both sides, but Schneider was just a little better and that was the difference in this game.
