The New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers always have intense matchups. There is a lot of fighting, hitting and scuffles during these games. One other thing you can always expect is a good hockey game and the Rangers played a pretty darn good hockey game tonight. The man who played the best was Henrik Lundqvist.

Lundqvist has struggled for most of this season. He hasn’t been able to string together good performances. He is on pace for career worsts in every single goalie category. But tonight, we saw the Lundqvist that we have all grown to love. We saw the Lundqvist who earned that huge seven-year $58 million contract he signed last month.

Lundqvist made 36 saves en route to a big 4-1 over the Flyers. The Rangers are now tied for second place in the Metropolitan Division. They are in third because the Washington Capitals have played fewer games than the Rangers.

But tonight was all about Lundqvist. The Rangers scored two quick goals but the Flyers continued to push and get shots on goal. Lundqvist was ready for the challenge. The Flyers did an excellent job of getting bodies in front of Lundqvist but he still found a way to shut them down. The first period was key when he made 17 saves.

The Rangers have won three games in a row and for the first time this season, Lundqvist has won three consecutive starts. The Rangers are starting to surge and it is time for them to make a move in the standings. If Lundqvist continues this play, the Rangers will climb the standings quickly.
