The Philadelphia Flyers will need to correct the mistakes they made in their loss on Thursday night as they head into a home-and-away series with the New York Islanders starting on Saturday night.

Most importantly, they need to make sure they are paying attention to their defensive game and focus on the penalty kill. It was in these two areas that the team really struggled in their loss to the Nashville Predators, so if they want to come out of Saturday’s game on top they’ll need to focus on this.

Luckily the team has seen a spurt in offense from linemates Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds. Both have been pretty consistent all season long and continue to foreshadow their future talents. Simmonds was pretty active in Thursday’s game, and he was even named one of the three stars of the game for his one goal and two assists. That goal was really important since it was the one that led the Flyers to overtime. Expect Simmonds to be hot again on Saturday, and he’ll receive help from linemates Schenn and Scott Hartnell.

The Flyers also have been pretty solid whenever they play against the Islanders. They won their last two games against the Islanders, both times scoring five goals. Philadelphia has definitely found a way to outshine the Islanders’ defense, and they will try to repeat that come Saturday night from home.

Although the Islanders have struggled whenever they play the Flyers that doesn’t mean that they don’t have strength on their team. Captain John Tavares is the glue that holds the team together as he leads his team with 57 points. He hasn’t been too active on the scoreboard this week, but right winger Kyle Okposo has been there in his absence. The Flyers will need to make certain they keep their eyes on these two whenever they enter their zone.
