Much has been talked about how the Dallas Stars have been on a slump since the start of the New Year and their offense has been the focal point of the critics, as they have been unable to put the puck in the net consistently.
They surely made the fans forget about that as they destroyed the Toronto Maple Leafs with a 7-1 win, dominated from start to finish and had one of the best offensive performances of the year against one of the top teams in recent weeks.
The Stars scored in every way possible and had some notable contributions all over the ice against Toronto. Their power play once against got them a goal – this time by Shawn Horcoff – and they look much improved in recent games and besides that, Rich Peverley scored a short-handed goal that was a testament of how strong the Stars’ offense played throughout the game.
Jamie Benn also stepped up his performance and after being heavily criticized in recent weeks, he answered back with four points – a goal and three assists – and Russian sensation Valeri Nichushkin scored twice, showing he deserves to be in contention to be considered as one of the top offensive rookies this season. It was a well-rounded performance by the Stars and head coach Lindy Ruff will surely be pleased about how his team handled one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
The road is still steep for the Stars and after carrying a huge losing streak to start the year, they need to string a few positive results together in order to maintain their chances of making the postseason. If they can put performances like this up on a consistent basis, the Stars will bounce back in no time, as they will keep fighting to return to the playoffs.
