Steve Mason Key in Philadelphia Flyers’ Victory Against Detroit Red Wings
Maybe turning his teammates into zombies and putting them on his new goalie mask shook off the cobwebs for Steve Mason. Or maybe the Philadelphia Flyers were actually on their skates and their goalie was on par on Tuesday night.
In the Flyers’ game against the Detroit Red Wings, they got a bit lucky due to the amount of Red Wings that were out of the lineup due to injury. Despite taking on a lot of the rookies, the Flyers did not play as if they were not taking this game to heart. They were playing smart in this game, and they were keen to keep the puck in the Red Wings zone, which is evident by the 5-0 end in favor of the Flyers.
While the offense was racking up the points on the ice to get the Flyers that victory, Mason was on top of his crease the entire night. Mason’s performance showed a difference in how the team was playing. Perhaps getting in some more practice in between their games is what helped the team shave off whatever was ailing them. Whatever it was, Mason needs to continue to play like he did in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
The shutout win was key for Mason, and it is only his second of the year, so reaching it was a great milestone for the Flyers goalie to reach.Mason and the rest of team had a rough week, but this is a new week and as they head to play the three California teams they need to build on this victory.
