Steve Mason: Philadelphia Flyers Player Of The Week
The Philadelphia Flyers had an okay outing in games last week, as they went 2-1 in their last three. They got really lucky with the Detroit Red Wings being so injured last Tuesday, but they ran into some trouble when they headed out to visit the Anaheim Ducks. However, they were able to make up for that by their win against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Flyers were so successful in their game in Los Angeles that I almost want to give the title of Player of the Week to the streaking powerhouse that is Wayne Simmonds. While Simmonds was great on Saturday, and has been a great addition to this team, this week I’m giving the title to a different player, and that player is Steve Mason.
I love goalies and I feel like they don’t get as much of recognition as their star centers, so perhaps I just have a soft spot for Mason. However, I feel like he has really started to prove himself lately. There is no question who the stronger goalie is between him and Ray Emery, and I think it’s high time the Flyers just name him their No. 1 goalie.
Mason was great this week, even though the Flyers did lose 5-3 against the Ducks. He was great keeping his net devoid of any goals in both the Flyers’ games against the Red Wings and the Kings. He was so good that he logged two shutouts in the aftermath of the games.
Mason has so much more potential to bring to the Flyers and I have faith that he is the netminder that this team needs.
