Since Rick Nash has been a member of the New York Rangers, which has been since the 2012 offseason, he has yet to play his former team, the Columbus Blue Jackets, in Columbus. Now, the Rangers have played in Columbus since Nash has been a Ranger, one time earlier this season to be exact, but Nash did not play that game, as he was out injured with a concussion. However, that all changed last night, as the Rangers and Nash returned to Columbus in a huge late season game that Nash will indeed remember for a very long time.

It started near the end of the 2nd period, where Nash was stopped and tripped up on a breakaway. Nash proceeded to lose his stick, as he was tripped up and shortly after this whistle blew. While Nash was skating to pick up his stick in the crease, Blue Jackets’ goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky used his goal stuck to knock Nash’s stick out of his reach. Nash did not take too kindly to that, so he answered back by punching Bobrovsky in the chest, leading to a mini brawl between the two teams.

That was just in the 2nd period though. Right when the 3rd started, Jackets’ Matt Calvert tied up Nash around the face-off circle; the two exchanged pleasantries, then dropped the gloves for a fight. Nash is a player who hardly ever fights, so it came as a huge surprise that one, he actually fought, and two, that he got a lot of good shots in on Calvert and actually won the fight.

However, winning a fight means nothing if you lose the game. Down 1-0 in the 3rd period, the Rangers would score three unanswered goals and win the game 3-1.  This was a huge win for the Rangers in the standings, as not only did they gain two points, but the Blue Jackets got zero.

All I can say is what a first game back to Columbus for Nash and the Rangers.
