5 Free Agents the New Jersey Devils Should Target

The New Jersey Devils had two glaring needs this season -- one was scoring in general. They ranked 24th in goals per game, but ranked in the top 10 in most other stats. The other part of the game that looks atrocious is their record in the shootout, as they are currently 0-11 in the shootout. Prior to their last loss, they only had one goal on 30 attempts.

These five free agents would help with one or both of these issues.

Paul Stastny isn't the big name that some Devils fans are looking for, but he already has 54 points on a team that is on its way to the playoffs. He is going to get crucial experience and could demand a decent deal. The Devils should look into locking down the 28 year old to pair with the likes of Adam Henrique and Travis Zajac for years to come.

Don't waste any time this offseason when it comes to Jaromir Jagr. He says he wants to come back to the Devils. He has shown he still has plenty in the tank, he won't ask for you to break the bank, and he is a great locker room commodity. This should be a no-brainer.

Michael Cammalleri is a name that was linked with the Devils as early as December when analysts were looking for players to get traded around the deadline. He is a free agent now, so the Devils can get him for free. He is on the wrong side of 30, but he still scored 25 goals this season. He also is 40 percent in the shootout this season, so there's that.

Derek Roy's career did not go the way anyone expected after he left Buffalo, but he is still trying to turn it around. He would be a typical Lou Lamoriello move. He takes a chance on a guy who, if it doesn't work out, will provide veteran depth in the bottom six. He could have also received some shootout tricks from phenom T.J. Oshie.

This is a risk, I will admit, but the Devils need a star forward to put this team together. They have a role player at every position and a 42 year old to provide their scoring. If they can add a superstar like this, then the Devils will quickly forget the names of Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk.
