Philadelphia Flyers Get Back On Track With Big Win
It was a game that the Philadelphia Flyers desperately needed. If they couldn’t defeat the NHL‘s worst team, it was quite clear they they didn’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Not only did they beat the Buffalo Sabres, they pounded them. It was a solid effort on both sides of the puck for the Flyers at all points in the game, but especially in the second period.
Steve Mason was perfect nearly the whole game, and stopped all 11 shots he faced through the second period. However, he couldn’t have done that without a little help from the defense. Mark Streit played a great game, earning three assists, two of them coming in the second period.
The second period also saw the Flyers score three goals. Philly was out-skating the Sabres from the get-go. When the net opened up in the second however, they put their feet on the Sabres’ throats and did not look back. It was definitely their most exciting single period of play in a few weeks. Say what you want about the Sabres, when your team is in a must-win situation, you’ll be happy with any win.
Philadelphia will get set to take on the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. It will be another game that they should win. As long as they come out explosive again like they did with Buffalo, the orange and black should be just fine. With a win last night, the Flyers’ playoff odds are now up to 98.3 percent. They need a mere four points to clinch their playoff spot.
