Rick Nash Needs to Score Goals This Postseason for New York Rangers

The postseason has never been kind to Rick Nash for some reason. Nash, who is widely considered to be a premiere goal scorer in the NHL, in his 17 career playoff games has only recorded two goals and seven assists. Definitely not something to write home or brag about for Nash.

While not having an overly impressive Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs for the New York Rangers against the Philadelphia Flyers, Nash did assist on one of the Rangers’ four goals in a 4-1 win. It’s a good start, but unfortunately for Nash, he needs to do much more for a Rangers’ team that struggles to put the puck in the net consistently.

Not only does Nash need to do more in order for the Rangers to go deep into the playoffs and have a successful postseason, but he also needs to do more for himself. Right now Nash is looked upon as a very good regular season performer with a lot of talent who just cannot handle the pressure of being in the playoffs.

The best way for Nash to get out of his playoff slump and score more goals is to simply just shoot the puck. Seems simple and reasonable, right? You would think so, but Nash seems to have this bad habit of always trying to pull off a fancy deke or spin move before shooting the puck. This might work in the regular season against weak opponents, but not in the playoffs, since the competition and intensity sky rocket to another level.

Nash must simplify his game and, frankly, just shoot the puck every chance he gets in order to end his career playoff slump and help lead the Rangers to a successful 2013-14 NHL postseason.
