The Edmonton Oilers have some of the NHL's best young talent. The only issue is that they don't have the vital surrounding talent to take them to the next level. Hockey has never been about one player on a team. If the Oilers can puzzle in these role players, they could make a nice little playoff run come next season.

Jay McClement is probably nothing more than a fourth line kind of player. So, why do I think the Oilers could use him? Edmonton's lack of success last season weighed heavily on its inability to win in the faceoff circle. McClement had 676 total wins inside the circle last year, good enough for 26th in the NHL. At a bargaining price, they could help that area of their game tremendously.

Cody Franson is a kid who probably is on a lot of team's radars. He finished first last season in hits (282) and also managed to block 111 shots. He's the exact kind of defenseman that Edmonton is currently lacking.

Mathieu Perreault is a kid who'd fit in nicely with the Oilers. They have incredibly strong wingers along the boards but need a more reliable guy in the middle on their first/second line. At a cheap price, he could be the guy to fill that role. Last season he had 18 goals in 69 games.

Chris Butler is the true defenseman that Edmonton should be searching for. Edmonton currently has one player on its roster that was in the top-50 players for blocked shots last season. Butler had 211, second to only Andrew MacDonald.

Edmonton needs a goalie. Plain and simple. Elliot could probably start on any other team in the NHL. Unfortunately for him, he's had two fantastic guys playing in front of him over the past few years. This could give him a golden chance to shine and give the Oilers the goalie they've been so desperately looking for.
