Just two years ago, Michael Del Zotto was a 21-year-old defenseman coming off a 41-point season for the New York Rangers. This past year, he was traded by the Rangers and then not tendered by the Nashville Predators, making him a free agent who has yet to be signed. Given his age (24) and the promise he showed only a few short years ago, there is reason to be optimistic he can get back to where he was.

The Philadelphia Flyers are always looking for help on the blue line, and Del Zotto is a low-cost, high-reward option who could definitely help them. If he can return to the 35-45 point he showed only a few years ago, he’ll prove all of his doubters wrong.

The interest between the two is supposedly mutual, and Del Zotto would be given plenty of ice time with one of the best coaches in hockey in Mike Babcock behind the bench. The Detroit Red Wings have a history of recycling players who have been given up on by other teams, and Del Zotto would personify that mantra.

The Colorado Avalanche need help on “D” and playing alongside young guns such as Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon would surely be beneficial to a power play quarterback like Del Zotto. Having a great coach in Patrick Roy surely wouldn’t hurt Del Zotto in his attempt to get reestablished as an NHL player.

With Ryan Suter and Jonas Brodin playing heavy minutes, the Minnesota Wild would love to solidify the team’s 3-5 defensemen; signing Del Zotto would do just that.

Given their salary cap situation the, Chicago Blackhawks will be looking for low-cost options on defense, and Del Zotto would be just that. Playing a bit role on a Stanley Cup contender could be what revives Del Zotto’s career.

The wild need third pair defensemen. There top 4 is better than people give the credit for. I think they trust Spurgeon and Scandella more than they would Del Zotto.
