Boston Bruins’ Brad Marchand’s Comment About Tomas Plekanec Is Childish

At times, Brad Marchand‘s talent is masked by his on ice antics. Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien has never given the forward more than a slap on the wrist, but his reputation is well known around the NHL.
At the rink, Marchand is constantly jawing at opposing players, and while he has never been afraid to speak his mind off the ice, this time he crossed the line.
During the 2014 Phoenix House Champs for Change dinner that was held in Marchand’s hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia, AHL President Dave Andrews asked him which NHL player irritates him the most. Let’s just say Marchand had little hesitation.
“There are a few guys out there that really irritate,” said Marchand, according to csnne.com. “Tomas Plekanec from Montreal…I hate him. I can’t stand him. No, I probably shouldn’t say that. I dislike him very much.”
After Marchand stated his feelings for Plekanec, his sly smirk vanished as he realized there would likely be repercussions for his words.
Many players around the league would surely say similar things about Marchand, but either way, his comments were Busch League. Marchand is a “professional” and he needs to act like one. Statements like that deserve discipline.
Marchand is the type of player you desire on your team solely because you hate to play against him. He is an agitator on the ice and he gets under player’s skin. The Bruins need that type of tenacity from their players, but they need to keep it on the ice.
Whenever the Montreal Canadiens come to town the tension between the two Original Six teams escalates. The B’s and the Habs have never liked each other, but as a fan of the game, you have to enjoy the level of energy and emotion that comes out whenever these two teams clash.
Now, correct me if I am wrong, but it seems as though the best rivalry in hockey has been rekindled ever since Marchand and his beak joined the B’s in 2009, right? Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien will never agree, but maybe, just maybe Marchand was actually a good addition to the league.
