Connor McDavid is the “next one” and potential franchise altering talent that has been torching the Ontario Hockey League since he was 15. The teenager phenom will likely be the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NHL Draft and will be turning heads right away. Teams that have no chance at competing should simply throw in the towel on their season to try and get this amazingly talented young man.

In signing Ryan Miller, the Canucks seemingly took themselves out of the McDavid sweepstakes, but never say never. Drafting the Erie Otter would bring about a level of excitement Vancouver hasn’t seen about the arrival of a forward since the Russian Rocket, Pavel Bure debuted over two decades ago.

The Sabres are benefitted by having their own likely high pick and the Islanders' pick which could be just as high. Adding McDavid to the plethora of young talent Buffalo has assembled would make the Sabres contenders seemingly overnight.

Despite having the No. 1 overall pick this year, the Panthers are still far from being a contender. While the team’s young talent is amazing, McDavid is better than anything on the roster now by a longshot. The 2015 draft will be held in Florida, meaning it would be at the very least an intriguing storyline.

2. Ottawa Senators

Ottawa traded away Jason Spezza and could be showing Bobby Ryan the door next meaning the Senators are clearly rebuilding. Going with a youthful lineup and being in a position to draft McDavid could get Ottawa to where it was during the glory days right after the lockout when they were legitimate contenders.

The Canes have been mired in mediocrity since winning the 2006 Stanley Cup and show no signs of breaking out of their funk. Tanking this upcoming season and drafting McDavid could bring the Hurricanes out of the middle of the pack and back to contention.
