GK Henrik Lundqvist may be the best goaltender on the New York Rangers — scratch that, he is — but if there is one thing backup goaltender Cam Talbot may have on Lundqvist, it is the design on his goalie mask, with an awesome “Ghostbusters” theme that us Rangers fans are now accustomed to seeing when he starts a game.
With great designs featuring the Ghostbusters’ iconic logo from both the first and second movies, Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver‘s characters, Zuul, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and, of course, the Rangers’ logo sprinkled in, we all just assumed Talbot’s favorite movie of all time was Ghostbusters. Well, this is actually false.
As reported by SNY’s Rangers Blog this afternoon, Talbot does like the Ghostbusters movies, but just not as much as everyone seems to think. The truth behind Talbot’s masks is that the designer is the one who came up with the idea, not Talbot, because Ghostbusters is set in New York City and, obviously, the designer is a fan. So Talbot, being a fan of the movies, agreed to have his face masks designed with a Ghostbusters’ theme.
So while Talbot is a fan of the Ghostbusters movies, the original story of he being such a huge fan of the movies that he just had to have his face masks painted in a Ghostbusters’ theme is false. But regardless of these circulating false stories, Talbot is still embracing the Ghostbusters themed facemasks and even released photos of his brand new Ghostbusters mask for this upcoming season.
So when Lundqvist has a day off, or heaven forbid is out with an injury … who are you still gonna call? CAM TALBOT!
