The Colorado Avalanche made one of the most remarkable turnarounds last season, but will they be able to sustain that success in 2014-15? Coming off his first Jack Adams Award, Patrick Roy will look to duplicate the start his team had last year, where the Avs won 12 of their first 13 contests.

It's only right that the Colorado Avalanche's home opener for the 2014-15 season is against the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year. There's no doubting that the Western Conference is the stronger side, but the Boston Bruins are likely going to dominate the Eastern Conference just like they did last year. When these two teams meet, it will be a good indication as to whether or not the Bruins can compete with one of the West's best teams. It'll also be interesting to watch Jarome Iginla face his former team.

The Dallas Stars are going to be the most improved team in the Western Conference, and with the playoff race heating up around late February, this matchup could be crucial to playoff seeding. It's going to test whether or not the Avalanche can handle themselves in big games away from home.

This date marks Paul Stastny's homecoming to Colorado, and it will be interesting to see how the fans at the Pepsi Center react to him. Stastny built his name as a member of the Avalanche, but there have to be some sore feelings in the front office when you consider that he ended up signing with one of the Avalanche's biggest rivals.
