The Columbus Blue Jackets are coming off their second playoff berth in franchise history and are looking to prove that it wasn't a fluke. With an array of young talent and a few new faces, the Blue Jackets could very likely find themselves in the playoffs once again. Here are five can't-miss games in 2014-15.
Who better for the Columbus Blue Jackets to face in their home opener than the reigning Eastern Conference Champions? If the Blue Jackets want to make a statement early on in the season, there's no better way to do so than by beating the New York Rangers on home ice.
There are many people writing off last season as a fluke for the Columbus Blue Jackets, but they'll have a handful of chances in the beginning of the season to prove the naysayers wrong. In late October, the Jackets will travel to Los Angeles to face the defending Stanley Cup Champions, and a win would send a big message that they are no joke.
The Blue Jackets are still forming a few rivalries around the NHL, but their biggest rival over the past decade has arguably been with the Detroit Red Wings. Their contest in mid-December at Joe Louis Arena will be a can't-miss game between two teams that are beginning to genuinely hate each other.
The Columbus Blue Jackets played the Pittsburgh Penguins tough in the playoffs last year but were eventually ousted in six games. This will mark the first of three meetings between the two teams, and with the Blue Jackets and Penguins in the same division now, expect some bad blood.
R.J. Umberger left a bad taste in the mouths of Blue Jackets fans when he was traded for Scott Hartnell of the Philadelphia Flyers, but Hartnell was a fan favorite in Philly. If there's one Columbus Blue Jackets game you won't want to miss, it's this one. The Flyers faithful are likely to give Hartnell an incredible homecoming, and it will be interesting to see if any animosity is shown toward Umberger.
