5 Possible Names for NHL Expansion Team in Seattle

Rumor has it that Seattle is one of the four cities that might land an NHL team in a speculated expansion. If the Rainy City did receive an NHL team, what would they be called? The Seattle Frasier Cranes? I wish.

Here are five possible names for an NHL team in Seattle.

Seattle houses a major fault line that crosses through the Puget Sound lowlands and into Seattle near Interstate Highway 90. Earthquakes are a devastating threat, so naming a rugged hockey team after them wouldn't be a bad idea.

Washington State's official fossil is the Columbian Mammoth. Mammoths were giant, prehistoric mammals that have been extinct for about 4,000 years. Mammoths were known for their monstrous size and large tusks. With a name like the Seattle Mammoths, the franchise could make any powerhouse team feel intimidated.

3. Seattle Astronauts

The Seattle Astronauts is a play on one of Seattle's most popular landmarks: the Space Needle. Aside from that, I don't think I need to explain any further why this would be one of the coolest names in the NHL.

2. Seattle Emeralds

Since the 1980s, Seattle has been called the Emerald City due to their lush evergreen forests. The Seattle Emeralds would be a unique name that pays homage to the beauty of the Jet City.

Seattle Orcas? No, too simple. Seattle Killer Whales? No, too brutal. Seattle Blackfish? Perfect! Washington State's official marine mammal is the gorgeous and fierce Orca whale. Orcas are sometimes referred to as "Blackfish." The Seattle Blackfish sounds awesome and menacing all at the same time and would be the perfect name for their team.

Alex Petrovic and Evander Kane Square Off Three Times In One Game

During Florida Panthers vs. Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday evening, Alex Petrovic and Evander Kane squared off twice in the second period, with an epic finale in the third. Unfortunately, they were both ejected after the third fight. Chances are, this battle would have continued into the fourth of fifth round had the two been anywhere near each other for the rest of the game.

Alex Galchenyuk Scores Wild Goal On Buffalo Sabres

Alex Galchenyuk put the Montreal Canadiens ahead of the Buffalo Sabres with this epic goal midway through the second period on Wednesday night. I'm still trying to figure out how his momentum didn't render him incapable of completing the shot, and I bet the Sabres remain baffled as well.
